As Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley hones in on his permanent defensive coordinator in 2019, here are a seven names for Sooner fans to consider as possible candidates for the job—with Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and Alabama co-defensive coordinator Pete Golding topping the list. The names include men who have jobs as defensive coordinators across the country in college football with a few outside candidates some might not have thought about. But the list is realistic in regard to the kind of coach Oklahoma can possibly land.
For instance, Kirby Smart is not the kind of candidate included in this list. Neither is former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. Both are outstanding coaches but the likelihood of either taking a job as the defensive coordinator is not high as Jason White quarterbacking the Sooners in 2019. (If you didn’t laugh, I can’t help you.)
