The Texas Longhorns notched a statement win over the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday in the Red River Showdown, coming out on top in a 48-45 thriller after freshman Cameron Dicker connected on a 40-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining.
On Monday, the Texas Football Twitter account posted a video commemorating the Longhorns’ big win over the rival Sooners, featuring some of the sights and sounds from throughout the day at the Cotton Bowl. The full video can be seen at the top of the page.
The Texas offense racked up 501 total yards and put together a late drive to set up the game-winning field goal after the Sooners erased a 21-point deficit with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Leading the way for the Longhorn offense was sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who completed 24 of 35 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards and three scores on 19 carries in the game.
Wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught nine passes for 133 yards and one touchdown and also threw a touchdown pass on the opening drive to fellow receiver Collin Johnson, who finished the game with six catches for 81 yards and a score. True freshman running back Keaontay Ingram rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries, giving the Longhorns a spark in the run game.
With the win, Texas snapped a two-game losing streak to the Sooners, improving to 62-46-5 all-time in the Red River Rivalry. It was the 113th meeting between the two programs, a rivalry that dates back to 1900.
The Longhorns appear to have found their groove under second-year head coach Tom Herman, ripping off five consecutive wins since dropping the season-opener, including three victories in a row to open Big 12 Conference play.
The No. 9 Longhorns (5-1, 3-0 Big 12) return to action on Saturday when they play host to the Baylor Bears (4-2, 2-1) at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPN.
