Sooners Sign Four for 2019

NORMAN – Oklahoma wrestling head coach Lou Rosselli announced Wednesday the signing of four wrestlers to National Letters of Intent. Josh Heindselman, Sam Dover, Darrien Roberts and Talon Borror will join the Sooners for the 2019-20 season.

“The four guys that we’ve signed this year are all very similar in that we went after a certain prototype and they all kind of fit that,” said head coach Lou Rosselli.

“All these guys aspire to wrestle at the next level, next level being that at the Olympic level, so you know they fit our prototype. We’re excited to have them all.”

Josh Heindselman / Piedmont, Okla. / Piedmont HS

  • 24-5 career record with 8 pins and 5 tech falls
  • No. 14 at 220 pounds in InterMat’s high school rankings
  • 2018 Oklahoma state champion, 2017 state runner-up
  • Two-time champion at the OSSAA 5A West Regional

Coach Rosselli on Heindselman: “Josh Heindselman, is from Piedmont, Oklahoma and will be a heavyweight for us. Josh a hard worker and a good student. I feel strongly that if he comes in and does what we think he can do, he has a really big upside to his wrestling.”

Sam Dover / Westlake, Ohio / St. Edward HS

  • No. 9 at 152 pounds in InterMat’s high school rankings
  • Three-time state placer, including third in 2017

Coach Rosselli on Sam Dover: “Sam Dover is from St. Edward, a powerhouse in Ohio. Sam is a good student, hard worker. He’s nationally ranked and wrestles all over the country. Being from the powerhouse St. Edward’s, you know he’s someone that expects winning. I think when he gets here, he’s going to love the coaching, the workload that we put on people, and I think he’ll flourish.”

Darrien Roberts / Kingston, Pa. / Wyoming Seminary

  • 35-6 career record with 15 pins
  • 2018 Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament Champion

Coach Rosselli on Roberts: “Darrien Roberts is from Pennsylvania. He’s from Wyoming Seminary and is going to wrestle 184 for us. He is someone that we’re looking to do big things. If he comes in and does all the work we require, he’ll flourish as well.”

Talon Borror / Coweta, Okla. / Coweta HS

  • No. 9 at 195 pounds in InterMat’s high school rankings
  • 40-5 career record with 19 pins
  • 2017 and 2018 Oklahoma State Champion
  • 2018 OKUSA Greco State Champion

Coach Rosselli on Borror: “Talon is a 184-pounder from Coweta, Okla. Having another Oklahoma kid is really good for the program. We expect him to compete for a spot, and he’s a good student and a great worker.”

The Sooners return to the mat Nov. 30 – Dec. 1 for the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. OU’s home opener is set for Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

Season tickets are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424.

Season ticket packages, which include tickets for each of the Sooners’ five home duals, cost $40 for adults and $32 for youth (ages 6-18) and senior citizens (55 and over). All season ticket holders will receive general admission tickets for each home match.
