Sooners Finish Fall Ball Undefeated

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Oklahoma softball team concluded fall exhibition play with a doubleheader against Arkansas on Sunday, defeating the Razorbacks 19-2 in game one before tying game two 2-2. 

Overall, OU finished its 2018 fall games with a 7-0-1 record.

Oklahoma 19, Arkansas 2

The Sooners opened the day in dominant fashion, scoring 19 runs on 21 hits in game one.

After the first two innings were scoreless, the Sooner offense took a commanding lead with a five-run third inning. A base hit from Jocelyn Alo brought Eliyah Flores home before Caleigh Clifton drove in Alo. Sydney Romero then doubled to score Clifton and Fale Aviu before a sacrifice bunt plated Romero.

In the fifth, Oklahoma erupted to score seven and extend its lead to 12-0. Clifton scored on an error and another Romero double drove in Aviu to force Arkansas to make a pitching change. After Romero scored on another sacrifice bunt, Grace Lyons and Clifton both delivered two-RBI doubles.

The Razorbacks scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, but Romero responded by leading off the sixth with a home run.

Lyons led off the seventh with a triple, and Audrie LaValley drove Lyons in with a base hit. Clifton then homered to extend the Sooner lead to 16-2. Rogers sealed the Sooners’ dominant win with a three-run homer in the seventh.

Mariah Lopez, Brooke Vestal and Shannon Saile combined in the circle for Oklahoma, allowing two runs and fanning three hits.

Oklahoma 2, Arkansas 2 

The Razorbacks struck first in game two, bringing across a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. 

In the top of the sixth, Romero drilled a two-out home run to bring the Sooners within one. 

Flores was clutch in the top of the seventh, crushing a solo shot over the left-field wall to tie the game at 2-2. 

Halloween Game

Fans’ final chance to catch the Sooners in action this fall will be on Tuesday night as the OU softball and OU baseball teams partner up for the annual Halloween Game. The intrasquad scrimmage will be played in costume at Marita Hynes Field. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. More information is available here
