Oklahoma men’s basketball made its season debut in the AP Top 25 Poll released Monday.
The Sooners (11-1) are ranked No. 25 following wins over Creighton and Northwestern last week. Oklahoma went on the road to beat Northwestern 76-69 in overtime Friday.
No. 5 Kansas and No. 11 Texas Tech are the other ranked Big 12 teams.
It’s been a surprising start to the season for the Sooners, who were picked in the preseason to finish eighth in the Big 12.
Oklahoma has played the 14th-hardest schedule in the country, according to KenPom. ESPN’s Basketball Power Index ranks OU fifth in strength of record.
Oklahoma, Kansas and Gonzaga are the only three teams in the country with five or more wins against major conference teams.
The Sooners have an extended holiday break before Big 12 play begins. Oklahoma will return to action at 8 p.m. on Jan. 2 at Kansas.
