LUBBOCK, Texas — Trailing 2-1 after three sets, the Oklahoma volleyball team rallied to win the final two periods and clinch a 3-2 victory against Texas Tech on Wednesday night inside United Supermarkets Arena.
After the Sooners (14-10, 6-6 Big 12) won a wild first set 30-28, the Red Raiders (16-10, 5-7 Big 12) took a lead in the match with 29-27 and 26-24 victories in the next two frames. However, the Sooners were dominant in the fourth set, winning 25-16, before clinching the match with a 15-10 victory in set five.
Oklahoma registered a season-high 71 kills, 10 more than the Red Raiders. Setter Kylee McLaughlin assisted on 62 of the Sooners’ kills, setting a career-high for the sophomore and finishing just four shy of the school record. She added 14 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.
Senior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking also registered a double-double performance, leading the match with 24 kills to go with 18 digs. Also finishing with double-digit kills were Paige Anderson with 15 and Sarah Sanders with 13.
Defensively, Keyton Kinley paced the match with 28 digs, one shy of her career best. Brianna Kadiku totaled nine blocks while McLaughlin had eight and Anderson recorded six.
The Sooners battled to win a back-and-forth 30-28 first set, finishing the period with a .325 attack percentage. After OU earned set point at 24-22, Texas Tech scored three straight to keep the frame alive and earn set point of its own. The two teams continued to trade points until a block by McLaughlin and Kadiku and a Red Raider error gave OU the set win.
The second period was equally competitive, featuring 12 ties and four lead changes before the Red Raiders narrowly claimed a 29-27 victory to tie the match.
Similarly, the third set required extra points after a Morgan Miller kill tied the frame at 24-24 to eliminate Texas Tech’s set point opportunity. However, the Red Raiders recorded a pair of consecutive blocks to take a 2-1 lead in the contest.
The fourth set saw a different trend as the Sooners led throughout the entire period, hitting .382 while holding their opponent at .125. Oklahoma closed out the set on a 6-1 run, including two kills from Sanders and one apiece from Enneking and Kadiku to force a fifth set.
The Red Raiders used a quick run in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. However, the Sooners used a four-point run of their own to take the lead at 6-5. After TTU tied it up at 6-6, Oklahoma scored on five of the next six chances to establish an 11-7 advantage. After a Miller kill and a pair of Red Raider errors earned the Sooners match point, Enneking sealed the match with another kill.
Up next, the Sooners return to McCasland Field House on Friday to host TCU. Prior to the contest, OU volleyball will recognize seniors Audrey Alford, Madison Drescher, Alyssa Enneking, Morgan Miller and Valerie Woody (medical retiree) for Senior Night.
The match is set for a 7 p.m. first serve, and tickets are on sale now. Fans that show their ticket for Saturday’s football game against Oklahoma State will receive free admission to Friday’s volleyball match.
