NORMAN — Oklahoma head softball coach Patty Gasso announced Monday the addition of transfer pitcher Giselle “G” Juarez.
The lefty All-American comes to Oklahoma after spending the first two seasons of her career at Arizona State.
“We are thrilled to announce the addition of Giselle Juarez to the OU pitching staff,” Gasso said. “She brings valuable experience from both the Women’s College World Series and the international scene. Giselle will be a great addition to an already-strong pitching staff and give us the ‘lefty flavor’ that OU is known for. We look forward to her making an immediate impact as a Sooner.”
In 2018, Juarez earned NFCA First Team All-America, NFCA All-Region and All-Pac 12 First Team honors as she led the Sun Devils to the Women’s College World Series. A native of Glendale, Ariz., she finished the season with a 26-6 record and a 1.22 ERA, allowing just 91 hits and 39 earned runs over 224.1 innings.
Additionally, she registered 305 strikeouts last spring to become one of just nine NCAA pitchers to reach the 300-strikeout threshold. Overall, Juarez totaled 13 shutouts as a sophomore, ranking third nationally.
In summer 2017, Juarez competed with the United States Junior Women’s National Team. She finished the summer with a 5-0 record, surrendering just 10 runs on 17 hits while striking out 28 over 25.2 innings of work.
During her freshman campaign, Juarez earned All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention accolades with a 2.79 ERA over 90.1 frames. She totaled 81 strikeouts while walking just 30 batters.
The Sooners will begin their 2019 campaign this February as they look to defend their seven straight Big 12 titles. Fans interested in tickets can contact the OU Athletics Tickets Office for more information.
