Last Time Out

Trailing 2-1 after three sets, the Oklahoma volleyball team rallied to win the final two periods and clinch a 3-2 victory against Texas Tech on Wednesday night inside United Supermarkets Arena.

After the Soonerswon a wild first set 30-28, the Red Raiders took a lead in the match with 29-27 and 26-24 victories in the next two frames. However, the Sooners were dominant in the fourth set, winning 25-16, before clinching the match with a 15-10 victory in set five.

Oklahoma registered a season-high 71 kills, 10 more than the Red Raiders. Setter Kylee McLaughlin assisted on 62 of the Sooners’ kills, setting a career-high for the sophomore and finishing just four shy of the school record. She added 14 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.

Senior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking also registered a double-double performance, leading the match with 24 kills to go with 18 digs. Also finishing with double-digit kills were Paige Anderson with 15 and Sarah Sanders with 13.

Defensively, Keyton Kinley paced the match with 28 digs, one shy of her career best. Brianna Kadiku totaled nine blocks while McLaughlin had eight and Anderson recorded six.

Sooners Win Three Straight Defensive Weekly Honors

Sophomore Keyton Kinley and junior Brianna Kadiku combined to earn three straight Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors in October, with Kinley earning the accolade on Oct. 15 and Oct. 22 and Kadiku doing so on Oct. 29. It marked just the second time in program history that Oklahoma has claimed three consecutive Big 12 weekly honors, also occurring in 2013 when then-senior Sallie McLaurin was named Offensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row.

For the week of Oct. 9-14, Kinley led the league with 51 total digs and 5.67 digs per set. Against No. 4 Texas on Oct. 13, Kinley tallied a career-high 29 digs, the most by one player in a Big 12 match this season. She also registered 22 digs against Texas Tech on Oct. 10, leading the match.

From Oct. 16-21, Kinley registered a conference-best 7.00 digs per set, marking the third straight week she has led the Big 12 in digs per set. She totaled 21 digs in OU’s sweep of West Virginia on Saturday. Her 21-dig performance marks the second-most digs in a league match this season behind only her own 23-dig showing against Kansas State earlier this season.

Against Kansas State on Oct. 24, Kadiku tallied a career-high 10 blocks, which matches the most in a four-set Big 12 match this year. Her performance led the Sooners to a season-best 19 total blocks, tying a program record for blocks in a four-set contest. Additionally, Kadiku added a match-high five blocks against No. 8 Texas on Oct. 27, including four block assists and a solo denial.

Previewing TCU

Although the Sooners lead the all-time series with TCU 12-6, the Horned Frogs claimed the first matchup of 2018 with a 3-0 victory in Fort Worth on Sept. 19. TCU is currently 13-10 on the season with a 5-7 mark in league play, defeating Iowa State on Nov. 3 to end a three-match losing skid.

Freshman elan McCall leads TCU with 4.76 kills per set. After missing six matches from Oct. 10-31, McCall returned to the Horned Frog lineup on Nov. 3 against Iowa State. Tori Dilfer ranks second in the conference with 11.11 assists per set and first with 34 service aces. Lexi MacLean paces the team with 3.46 digs per set, and Sarah Swanson and Anna Walsh are averaging 0.91 and 0.89 blocks per set, respectively.

Up Next: Iowa State, West Virginia

The Sooners will have another split week next week, hosting Iowa State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., to face West Virginia on Saturday at noon CT.
