Reynolds Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

NORMAN – Oklahoma graduate guard Miles Reynolds was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week on Wednesday for games played Dec. 17-25. Earning the honor for the first time in his career, Reynolds averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of Oklahoma wins.

Reynolds began the week with 13 points, four assists and four rebounds in a home victory over Creighton before producing 11 points and five boards in an overtime win at Northwestern.

In his lone year with the Sooners as a graduate transfer, Reynolds is Oklahoma’s second-leading scorer with season averages of 10.9 points, 2.9 rebound and 1.3 assists. He has reached double-digit scoring in six of his last seven outings.

OU enters conference play on a seven-game winning streak with a league-best record of 11-1. Ranked No. 25 in the latest AP Top 25, the Sooners boast seven road/neutral wins (most in the nation) and nine wins away from Norman while facing the second toughest strength of schedule according to the CBS Sports RPI.

Oklahoma and Gonzaga are the only schools with wins over five different major conferences during non-conference play. OU, Gonzaga and Kansas are also the only programs with at least five wins over major conference teams in non-league play.

The Sooners open Big 12 play at Allen Fieldhouse when they face No. 5 Kansas on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

Reynolds shared the Co-Newcomer of the Week honors with Curtis Jones of Oklahoma State.
