NORMAN — The Oklahoma volleyball team is set to face its highest-ranked opponent of the season so far on Saturday, hosting No. 4 Texas at 7 p.m. CT inside McCasland Field House.
Saturday’s match is set to be aired on Fox Sports Oklahoma. Additionally, it can be heard on the air through Sportstalk 1400 AM in Norman.
MATCH DAY STORYLINES
Saturday is “Paint McCasland Red” night, and fans are encouraged to wear red. There will also be OU Volleyball tumblers for the first 200 students.
OU Athletics introduced a clear bag policy and walk-through metal detectors at all home events this year, including volleyball matches. More information can be found here.
Last Time Out
After falling behind early, the Sooners rallied to take down RV Texas Tech 3-1 on Wednesday night in Norman. The Red Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning 25-18 in the first set, outhitting OU .324-.175 in the period. Still, OU rebounded to win the next three frames: 25-18, 25-22, 25-17.
Despite the slow start, the Sooners finished with a .258 hitting percentage while holding TTU at .180. OU also out-killed Texas Tech by a 53-50 clip. On defense, the Sooners registered 13.0 blocks to the Red Raiders’ 6.0 and totaled 54 digs to their opponents’ 52.
Senior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking earned her fifth consecutive double-double in the match, totaling a match-high 21 kills to go with 14 digs. She also led the contest with six blocks, including two solo denials.
Also finishing the match with double-digit kills were Sarah Sanders with 11 and Morgan Miller with 10, good for a season-best. Sophomore Kylee McLaughlin paced the match with 41 assists while classmate Keyton Kinley produced a match-best 22 digs.
Home Sweet Home
The Sooners are currently 5-1 inside McCasland Field House, with their only loss coming in five sets against Kansas, which is currently in first place in the Big 12. OU opened its home slate by hosting the OU Nike Invitational, when it defeated Northwestern State once and Texas A&M twice.
In its conference home opener, OU swept Kansas State. The Sooners have also defeated Big 12 foe Texas Tech inside McCasland.
Previewing No. 4 Texas
Ranked No. 4 nationally, Texas leads the series against Oklahoma 49-4. Only Nebraska holds more all-time wins over the Sooners, with 75 total. The Longhorns are currently 10-4 this season with three losses coming against top-10 teams. In conference play, UT is 5-1 after suffering its first Big 12 loss to Kansas, 3-1, on Wednesday.
Micaya White leads Texas with 3.64 kills per set, and Brionne Butler ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 with a .370 hitting percentage. Ashley Shook is currently averaging 10.71 assists per set, and libero Sydney Petersen is at 3.53 digs per set. Butler and Morgan Johnson lead the team with 1.17 and 1.13 blocks per set, respectively.
