NORMAN – Oklahoma sophomore guard Shaina Pellington has been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The preseason honors were chosen by conference head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Pellington, the 2018 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaged 13.1 points per game and posted a .496 field goal percentage last season. Pellington led all Big 12 freshmen in scoring last season during the regular season and in conference play. She was the seventh Sooner in school history to win the Big 12 Freshman of the Year Award.
The Pickering, Ontario, native recorded seven 20-point games a year ago and led the Sooners in scoring on eight different occasions. Pellington, who made 20 starts and appeared in all 31 games last season, was unanimously picked to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team and earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors in 2017-18.
OU begins its 2018-19 schedule on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. CT with an exhibition game at Lloyd Noble Center against Northeastern State. The Sooners open the regular season on Nov. 9 against Western Kentucky. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT.
