OU XC Begins Postseason at Big 12 Championship

NORMAN — Oklahoma cross country opens postseason competition at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship on Friday at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa.

OU concluded the regular season two weeks ago at the Texas A&M-Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas. The men earned ninth, led by top-30 showings from Jacob Janzen and Zach Gentry, while the women placed 17th as freshman Haley Herberg took fifth place. The Oklahoma men’s team ranks 15th in the Midwest region in the last regular season regional rankings prior to conference meets this weekend.

“Our men and women are both picked to finish mid-pack, but if there’s anything we’ve learned from the past couple Big 12 meets, it’s that the rankings are worth the paper they’re written on,” said Oklahoma associate head cross country coach Kevin Ondrasek. “Our teams are athletically fit and very in sync with what they want to accomplish.

“It will be up to them to take what they think they’re worth come race day.”

In last year’s Big 12 XC Championship, the Sooners women’s squad placed seventh, while the men took eighth. Then-senior Belle Wallace claimed All-Big 12 honors after a fifth-place finish in the women’s 6K.

Results from the 2018 Big 12 Cross Country Championship will be available on and following the meet. Additionally, FloTrack subscribers can access a live stream of both the men’s and women’s races as well as post-event replays.
