Last Time Out

Playing in its final home match of 2018, the Sooners team fell to Iowa State 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The Sooners suffered their fourth sweep of the season 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.

Alyssa Enneking led the Sooners with 15 kills and added 12 digs for her 17th double-double of the season. McLaughlin Named AVCA National Player of the Week

Sophomore setter Kylee McLaughlin was named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday, becoming just the fourth Sooner in program history to earn a national weekly honor, joining Kierra Holst (Oct. 29, 2014 – espnW), Sallie McLaurin (Sept. 17, 2014 – AVCA) and Caitlin Higgins (Nov. 4, 2008 – AVCA).

She was also named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week with Iowa State’s Jess Schaben on Monday, marking the fourth Big 12 weekly award for OU this season and first offensive accolade. McLaughlin is the first Sooner to be named Offensive Player of the Week since Audrey Alford on Sept. 5, 2016.

McLaughlin led the Big 12 with 108 assists and 12.00 assists per set last week. Her 108 assists were the most in a week’s span during conference play this season. McLaughlin also ran the Sooner offense that averaged 14.11 kills per set on a .246 hitting percentage. She set a career high with 62 assists on Wednesday, matching the most by a Big 12 student-athlete this season. Additionally, McLaughlin earned double-doubles in both of OU’s matches last week.

Sooners Reaching Records

At this point in the season, Alyssa Enneking holds 444 kills, one shy of her 2017 total that led the Big 12 last year. Enneking is six kills away from matching the OU single-season kills record, which is currently held by Kierra Holst’s 450 kills in 2014.

Keyton Kinley has totaled 502 digs this year to become just the second Sooner in the 25-point rally scoring era to reach the 500-dig threshold in a season. She joins Maria Fernanda, who had at least 500 digs each year from 2010-12.

Sophomore middle blocker Paige Anderson leads OU with a 1.30 blocks per set average this season. That average currently ranks fourth in program history during the 25-point rally scoring era, trailing only Sallie McLaurin’s averages from 2011-13.

Previewing West Virginia

OU holds a 13-1 all-time advantage over West Virginia, most recently sweeping the Mountaineers on Oct. 20. After falling to TCU 3-1 on Wednesday, WVU is currently 11-16 with a 2-11 mark in league play.

Katelyn Evans leads the Mountaineers with 3.24 kills per set while Lacey Zerwas is averaging 9.15 assists per set. Defensively, libero Alexa Hasting holds 3.08 digs per set and Katie DeMeo has 1.34 blocks per set.
