Last Time Out

The Sooners split a pair of road matches last week, defeating RV Kansas State 3-1 on Wednesday before falling to No. 8 Texas 3-0 on Saturday.

OU defeated KSU – 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 – behind a season-best 19-block performance, matching a program record for total denials in a four-set match in the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-present). Junior Brianna Kadiku led the way with a career-high 10 while Paige Anderson added nine.

Senior outside hitters Alyssa Enneking and Morgan Miller both earned double-doubles on Wednesday. Enneking finished with a match-high 18 kills and added 14 digs for her 13th double-double of the year. Miller totaled 10 kills to go with a season-high 18 digs for her first double-double of 2018. Also finishing with double-digit kills were Anderson (12) and Sarah Sanders (11).

Kylee McLaughlin led the match with 52 assists, her first 50-plus performance since Sept. 7. She finished one dig shy of a double-double. Keyton Kinley totaled a match-high 24 digs while Aysia Harty added 10.

On Saturday, the Longhorns (14-4, 9-1 Big 12) handed the Sooners (13-9, 5-5 Big 12) their third straight-set loss of the season 25-15, 25-20, 25-23.

Kadiku Named Defensive Player of the Week

Junior Brianna Kadiku was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after pacing the conference with 15 total blocks and 2.14 blocks per set last week. She led the Sooners to a league-best 24 denials and 3.43 blocks per set for the week.

Kadiku’s honor is the third straight Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week selection for the Sooners after Keyton Kinley earned the title on Oct. 15 and Oct. 22. This marks just the second time in program history that Oklahoma has claimed three consecutive Big 12 weekly honors, also occurring in 2013 when then-senior Sallie McLaurin was named Offensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row.

Against Kansas State on Wednesday, Kadiku tallied a career-high 10 blocks, which matches the most in a four-set Big 12 match this year. Her performance led the Sooners to a season-best 19 total blocks, tying a program record for blocks in a four-set contest. Additionally, Kadiku added a match-high five blocks against No. 8 Texas on Saturday, including four block assists and a solo denial.

Previewing RV Baylor

Receiving votes in Monday’s AVCA Coaches Poll, Baylor sits in third in the Big 12 with a 6-4 conference record (14-7 overall). The Bears won a pair of league matches last week, defeating TCU 3-2 and Kansas 3-0. All-time, Oklahoma leads BU 39-20, but Baylor has claimed the last five meetings, most recently a 3-1 decision in Waco, Texas, on Sept. 28.

Yossiana Pressley currently leads the Big 12 with 5.13 kills per set while Shelly Fanning is averaging 3.01 on a .397 attack percentage. Setter Hannah Lockin holds a 9.72 assists per set average, and libero Tara Wulf holds 3.78 digs per set. Fanning also leads the Bears in blocking with a 0.98 denials per set average.

Up Next: Texas Tech, TCU

The Sooners head to Texas Tech on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. CT matchup with the Red Raiders. OU then returns home on Friday for Senior Night against TCU at 7 p.m. CT.
