NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s golf carded a 290 (+2) in Monday’s round of the Magnolia Invitational in Starkville, Miss. The Sooners are in third place with a 36-hole total of 579 (+3) at the par-72, 6,320-yard Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Sooners are within seven shots of the lead with one road remaining, as Kennesaw State leads the field with a two-day score of 571 (-5). Mississippi State is one shot behind the Owls with a score of 572 (-4).
“We played solid most of the day but struggled coming down the stretch,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We are in a great spot going into the final round. The weather will play a huge factor into our prep for tomorrow, so we look forward to bringing a great mindset into a day of tough conditions.”
Kaitlin Milligan leads the Sooners after two days, posting a 71 (-1) on Monday. Milligan is tied for sixth place with an overall score of 142 (-2), recording six birdies through the first 36 holes of play.
Freshman Libby Winans posted an even-par 72 to sit in 10th place at 143 (-1). This is Winans’ second straight tournament entering the final day in the top 10.
Sophomore Hannah Lee finished the day with a 74 (+2) and it tied for 22nd with a 146 (+2). Fellow sophomore Sydney Youngblood fired a second round score of 73 (+1) and is tied for 30th at 148 (+4).
After firing a 77 (+5) in Sunday’s opening round, freshman Mikhaela Fortuna improved by five shots on Monday with a 74 (+2). The rookie is tied for 45th with a 151 (+7)
