OU Heads to Journeyman MyHouse Collegiate Classic

NORMAN – The Oklahoma wrestling team heads to Schenectady, N.Y., for the Journeyman MyHouse Collegiate Classic Sunday.

“We’re excited to go up there and wrestle. Should be a good event, a good test. I think that we’re continuing to find events and places where we can go and compete and test ourselves, and I think this is another one of those tests,” said head coach Lou Rosselli.

“We have a very young team, I think with five freshmen starting we just got to keep developing and making them grow and see how they can do as each competition goes. As the competition gets higher hopefully we’ve got to raise our level and intensity to meet that.”

The tournament field features competition from six universities, including InterMat top-25 teams NC State (No. 8), Lehigh (No. 10) and Lock Haven (No. 20), as well as conference rival West Virginia.

Fourteen Sooners will represent OU at the event.

In their last competition, nine members of the OU roster finished in the top five in their respective weight classes at the Michigan State Open, with redshirt freshman Jake Woodley winning the 197 pounds division.

In addition to Woodley and graduate transfer MacCallum, five other Sooners picked up their first wins in the Crimson and Cream: Tony Madrigal, Anthony Mantanona, Jake Boyd, Collin McCoy and Dom Demas.

Demas tallied his first career win with a pin of Notre Dame’s David Bavery in just 2:49, and went on to record a second pin en route to a fourth-place finish in the 141 pounds division. Senior Davion Jeffries also picked up to wins by pin at the tournament and finished third at 149 pounds.

Several Sooners enter the weekend ranked by InterMat and FloWrestling. Woodley is currently ranked No. 15 by InterMat, and is joined in the rankings by teammate Kayne MacCallum, who clocks in at No. 20 at 184 pounds.

Three Sooners were featured in FloWrestling’s Nov. 5 release: redshirt senior Christian Moody is No. 17 at 125 pounds, while Justin Thomas is No. 15 at 157 and Jake Woodley is No.14 at 197 pounds.

Competition is set to begin at 8 a.m. CT.

Matches will be streamed live via FloWrestling for a fee.
