NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s golf climbed three spots during the second round of Battle at the Beach on Saturday, improving by 14 strokes compared to its first round score. The Sooners carded a 285 (+1) and now sits in fifth place at 584 (+16) with one round remaining at the par-71, 6,202-yard Golf Course Club Campestre San Jose in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The Sooners are only two shots out of the 17-team field’s top three, which is led by Auburn with a 565 (-3).
“We put ourselves in better spots today and were able to take advantage,” said OU assistant coach Ryan Sirman. “We still made some mistakes but will learn from them. We’re excited for the opportunity to go out and finish the fall season strong.”
Sophomore Kaitlin Milligan shot a 1-under 70 to move into seventh place at 143 (+1). Auburn’s Kaleigh Telfer leads the individual standings with a 4-under 138.
Freshman Libby Winans, who shot a 6-over 77 on Friday, bounced back with a 70 (-1) on Saturday. She moves into 25th place with a 36-hole score of 147 (+5).
Senior Julienne Soo shot a 73 (+2) for the second round in a row and eyes another top-20 finish, currently tied for 17th.
Freshman Mikhaela Fortuna shot a 72 (+1) is tied in 32nd at 148 (+6) and Hannah Lee is tied for 46th with a two-round total of 151 (+9).
