Assuming Georgia loses to Alabama, the situation is now ‘win and you’re in’ for Oklahoma. For all intents and purposes, OU has been in playoff mode since the Texas loss. Now after rattling off six straight wins, the Sooners find themselves in prime position with a chance to avenge their lone loss on the season. While the team’s focus is squarely on winning a fourth consecutive Big 12 Championship, the rest of us can look around the nation and keep an eye out for what needs to happen to ensure a berth in the 2018 CFP.

First and foremost, Oklahoma obviously must win this weekend. That goes without saying. After that, since the debate has practically come down to OU and Ohio State, how each team performs this Saturday could determine how the playoff committee views the two. Clearly, the Sooners not only have a chance to avenge their only loss, but beating Texas will do more for their resume than Ohio State beating Northwestern.

What else needs to happen is Georgia losing to Alabama. With how dominant the Crimson Tide has been all season, a loss to the Bulldogs will almost definitely not be enough to send them outside the top four (or at least it’s difficult to imagine that happening). That means if you’re a Sooner fan, you need to be rooting for ‘Bama, or against UGA, however you want to look at it.
