Oklahoma Football Recruiting: Five-star WR Jadon Haselwood announces decision to play at Oklahoma

Ladies and gentlemen, the Oklahoma Sooners have the most impressive wide receiver class in recent memory (or perhaps ever).

Five-star WR Jadon Haselwood has picked the OU hat at the All-American Bowl. Let us rejoice and be glad.

It would be disingenuous, however, to say that there was too much drama here with the Metro Atlanta native. OU had been considered the heavy favorite for the nation’s No. 1 receiver since the beginning of the Early Signing Period, and when it was reported that he had already signed with his school of choice, the writing seemed to be on the wall.

Oklahoma is getting a big, lanky and athletic receiver who is going to be an absolute terror in the red zone. While the 6’3” receiver doesn’t necessarily have blazing speed, his tremendous agility for his size also makes him a matchup nightmare at every level of the field. Much like 2019 WR signee Theo Wease, he has the route-running ability of a much smaller player. Most importantly, the guy just makes plays.

The Ellenwood (GA) Cedar Grove product was on Oklahoma’s radar for a long time, but he ended up committing to the home-state Georgia Bulldogs back in March of 2017. However, Oklahoma was in this battle for the long haul, and it paid off in a huge way when he backed off of his UGA pledge this fall.

Of course, Oklahoma signed five-star WR Theo Wease and four/five star (depending on the service) WR Trejan Bridges during the early period. Wease is ranked as the No. 1 receiver by Rivals and the No. 3 receiver in the 247Composite rankings, while Bridges is No. 4 and No. 10 in those rankings, respectively. Additionally, OU has a signature from four-star TE Austin Stogner. Needless to say, Lincoln Riley’s offense won’t be short on quality targets anytime soon.

Oklahoma’s class, which is currently comprised of 23 players, ranks 3rd in the Rivals Team Rankings and 4th in the 247Composite.
