Oklahoma Football NFL: Adrian Peterson busts the longest run of his career

As fans around America were waiting for the College Football Playoff rankings and bowl matchups to unfold on early Sunday afternoon, Week 13 in the NFL kicked off with a handful of Oklahoma Sooners ready to make an impact as we hit the stretch run of the 2018 season.

Baker Mayfield had a rough first half against the Texans before eventually finding a groove in the second and begin a rally. Unfortunately for the Browns, his three turnovers were ultimately too much to overcome despite being able to move the ball consistently as the game wore on, and any attempts at a comeback fell short in the 29-13 loss on the road.

Mayfield began the game completing only five of his 13 total passes for 45 yards and threw three costly interceptions in the first half — one of them returned for a touchdown by ultra-athletic linebacker Zach Cunningham. The rookie quarterback rebounded after halftime to finish with 397 yards and a touchdown on 29-of-43 passing.

Following his poor first-half performance, Mayfield’s response to the adversity on the road in second half was truly impressive. The Texans boast one of the league’s best defenses marked by a devastating pass rush and an active, playmaking secondary, but Baker eventually found a rhythm and tried to mount a comeback that didn’t quite build enough steam to catch up to the lead of one of the league’s best teams on the road.

The Texans, who are currently third overall in the AFC at 9-3, didn’t look back despite a budding Browns second-half comeback after building a 23-0 lead by halftime. This tweet captured Baker Mayfield’s Week 13 outing rather aptly:

The Browns (4-7-1) are at home against the Panthers next week.

Aaron Colvin grabbed five solo tackles and assisted on another, along with recovering a late fumble on the other side for the Texans.

Kenny Stills found the end zone for what was ultimately the game-winning score in the Dolphins win over the Bills. Stills has had few chances to make plays in recent weeks, but the quarterback and offensive situation in general are a mess in Miami. So, Kenny does what Kenny does — cash in the few chances he gets in stylish fashion.

Stills finished with four receptions for 37 yards on the afternoon.

Jordan Phillips, Kenny’s former teammate in Miami, recorded two solo and one assisted tackles on the other side for the Bills.

Joe Mixon rushed for 82 yards on 12 carries and added 13 more yards on two catches in the Bengals’ loss to the Broncos. Jordan Evans grabbed three solo and two assisted tackles on the afternoon.

Mark Andrews caught three passes for 47 yards in the Ravens’ win over the Falcons.

Sterling Shepard caught four passes for 28 yards in the Giants’ win over the Bears.

Dede Westbrook had three receptions for 25 yards in the Jaguars’ 6-0 win over the Colts.

Gerald McCoy recorded one solo tackle in the Buccaneers’ win over the Panthers.

Finally, Adrian Peterson was in action for Washington on Monday Night Football in Philadelphia. And whaddaya know, AD made some more history.

Taking a handoff 90 yards to the end zone — the longest rush of his career — in the second quarter, Peterson ran for his 106th career rushing touchdown, tying Jim Brown for fifth on the NFL’s all-time list.

Unfortunately, it was slow going for the rest of the night, as AD rushed for a total of 98 yards on nine attempts in Washington’s loss to the Eagles. Oh well. No one’s going to remember those eight other carrier when he’s being enshrined in Canton.
