Oklahoma Football: Kyler Murray savors football, Buddy Hield is on fire

Happy Halloween, ghosts and ghouls!

Yesterday, the Oklahoma Sooners baseball and softball teams raised over $15,000 for OU Children’s Hospital in the annual Halloween Game. If you’d like to donate, you still can. Just follow the link in the tweet below.

In attendance were Oklahoma AD Joe “Mario” Castiglione, the Rockford Peaches from A League of Their Own, some Minions, Maverick and Iceman, Monsters Inc.’s Sully and Buddy the Elf.

Now onto this Halloween edition of Hot Links! Landry Jones is headed to Jacksonville, Buddy Hield is on fire, Patrick Beverley needs to chill and more!

  • On ESPN’s College Football Live, Todd McShay and David Pollack showed some recognition for Oklahoma’s offense and improving defense.
  • With Kyler Murray being as efficient as he’s been, is it really any surprise that his top two receivers lead the Big 12 in passer rating when targeted? At the same time, those dangerous weapons — CeeDee Lamb and Marquise Brown — make his life a hell of a lot easier.
  • Trae Young is beginning to make it look easy on a nightly basis with the Atlanta Hawks. Check out the moves and the quickness as he gets right to the basket for the easy drop-in layup.
  • Buddy Hield is an improved player, and last night against the Orlando Magic he recorded 25 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Through the first eight games of the season, he’s averaging 18.9 PPG and making nearly 45 percent of this three-point attempts. Oh, and the Kings are actually playing some decent basketball. That’s my Buddy!
  • Of course the greatest QB in Sooner history was the red M&M for Halloween back in the day. That’s the best one!
  • Russell Westbrook and the OKC Thunder notched a big win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, but the highlight (lowlight) of the night happened when Patrick Beverley dove at the former MVP’s knees when the ball was loose. The exchange that followed lingered beyond the timeout and both players were assessed technical fouls for chirping. Beverley was assessed a flagrant 1 after a review.
  • Maryland head coach DJ Durkin has been brought back after serving an indefinite suspension since August. The controversy of his return revolves around the death of Terps player Jordan McNair and the possible culture that led to his passing. If you look into it, it’s clear that this is pretty despicable on Maryland’s part.
  • Ohio State’s Urban Meyer revealed that he was diagnosed with a brain cyst in 1998, which he says causes severe headaches from time to time. He continues to assert that he will try to coach for as long as he feels able to.
  • The Boston Red Sox are celebrating like every other pro team who wins a championship — with a city-wide parade. Follow along here for updates on the party in Bean Town.
  • 4’11” Kristin Chenoweth and 7’3” Boban Marjanovic standing next to each other looks even more absurd than what I expected.
  • With the Disney streaming service in the works, exclusive series for the Netflix-like platform are also gearing up for production. One of those series will reportedly be a mini-series revolving around Marvel heroes Winter Soldier and Falcon. Unlike shows like ‘Daredevil’, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’, these mini-series will be canonical with the Marvel cinematic universe that has been built by producer Kevin Feige. ‘Empire’ writer Malcolm Spellman has been named the lead writer for this project.
