The Oklahoma Sooners’ graduating seniors get the honor of playing their final home game on Saturday night against the Kansas Jayhawks, a team that has sunk so low Les Miles might represent a coaching upgrade.
What kind of shenanigans might the boys from Lawrence have in store for the handshake this year? Dogging Kenneth Murray’s haircut? Making fun of Rodney Anderson’s knee brace? Talking junk about Austin Seibert’s coffin-corner skills?
Pregame fireworks could be the most interesting thing about this game. OU should finish off KU pretty quickly, so if you’re looking for alternative viewing options, you can find the TV schedule and live stream info down below my gambling picks for this week.
Kansas at Oklahoma (-35.5) – How you bet a big number like this often comes down to your view of the adversaries’ states of mind. KU is reeling from losing a heartbreaker to the Kansas State Wildcats. OU is hoping to get out of Norman healthy and ready for next week’s game at West Virginia. With the Sooners likely to empty the bench early, the Jayhawks can probably keep the final score within five touchdowns. Gambling pick: KU +35.5.
Notre Dame vs. Syracuse at Yankee Stadium (+10.5) – The Fighting Irish are doing that thing where they convince a team to give up a home game to play them in some iconic college football venue like the Alamodome or Camping World Stadium. We can’t be that far off from ND and some school like Texas A&M announcing a deal to play at one of those World Cup stadiums being built in Qatar. This time, the Irish are taking on Syracuse in the House That Alleged Property Assessment Fraud Built. Sooner fans hoping the Orange can eliminate a contender for the College Football Playoff should look elsewhere for an upset in a game where weather could be a factor. A cover could be a different story. Gambling pick: Syracuse +10.5.
TCU at Baylor (-2) – The vibe around these teams right now couldn’t feel more different. Injuries appear to have broken the Horned Frogs’ spirits. Meanwhile, the Bears are closing in on their first bowl game under coach Matt Rhule. Look for Baylor to get its sixth win with a vengeance. Gambling pick: Baylor -2.
South Florida at Temple (-13.5) – The temperature in Philadelphia will be around 25 to 30 degrees colder at kickoff of this game than it will be back in Tampa. The Bulls are crumbling down the stretch; they lost to Cincinnati last week by 12 despite recovering two fumbles by the Bearcats. The cold combined USF’s slump points to a Temple blowout. The Owls also want payback for a humiliating 43-7 beatdown from the Bulls last year. Gambling pick: Temple -13.5.
Northwestern at Minnesota (-2) – Which team is more likely to be dialed in here: the one that just clinched a spot in the Big Ten title game or the one that still needs a win to get to a bowl game? P.J. Fleck’s team has to feel just a little salty about the beating NU gave the Golden Gophers last year, too. Gambling pick: Minnesota -2.
West Virginia at Oklahoma State (+5) – How much could the Cowboys possibly have left in the tank after the last three weeks? The Mountaineers appear to be peaking. (Get it?) Will Grier and company shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball on OSU’s beleaguered defense. Gambling pick: WVU -5.
Boston College at Florida State (+1.5) – The Eagles are really beat up after sustaining a boatload of body blows from Clemson last week. As bad as the Seminoles have looked this season, this line feels light. Feels like somebody knows something. Gambling pick: FSU +1.5.
Ohio State at Maryland (+14.5) – Maryland can’t throw, and the Terrapins are now without the services of quarterback Kasim Hill. The Buckeyes haven’t played well on defense this season, but they can shut down a one-dimensional team. Urban Meyer will want to see his team playing sharp football before taking on Michigan next week. Gambling pick: Ohio St. -14.5.
