No. 1 Sooners Victorious in Lincoln










LINCOLN, Neb. — The No. 1 rated Oklahoma men’s gymnastics group extended its get streak to 107 straight victories Saturday night, topping No. 4 Illinois and No. 7 Nebraska within the Bob Devaney Athletics Middle in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners bested the Huskers and Illini by a group score of 411.300 to 401.250 and 399.150, respectively. Faster gymnasts claimed or won a share of four of six individual titles and OU won five of six activities as a group. 

“It’s usually a small extra challenging competing on the road,” explained OU head coach Mark Williams. “We experienced some struggles and when you have faults, they are magnified when you journey. I’m satisfied for the guys that executed very well, but I really feel like we nevertheless have perform to do to be the group I want us to be at the finish of the year.”

The Sooners started out the night on nevertheless rings, tallying a 68.550. They ended up led on the function by senior co-captain Yul Moldauer’s 14.300. Moldauer’s score was great for 2nd on the function out of all groups.

In the fourth rotation on substantial bar, OU notched a 66.250. The Sooners ended up led by senior co-captain Genki Suzuki’s 13.550. The score brought residence a tie for the function title for Suzuki, his fourth individual victory on the year. 

On a single of the team’s strongest activities, Oklahoma recorded a 71.850 on vault. Junior Tanner Justus won the individual crown with a 14.600, his 2nd consecutive vault title of the year. All six of the Sooners’ vault scores topped 14.000, with sophomore Gage Dyer and freshman Vitaliy Guimaraes yet again contributing with potent respective scores of 14.400 and 14.550. 

Finishing the night on parallel bars, OU tallied a year-ideal 69.850. Moldauer won his 2nd function title of the meet with a 14.700 score in the anchor place. Fellow senior Suzuki assisted the Sooners finish the meet potent with a 14.350.

OU proceeds its road swing Saturday, Feb. 9, when the Sooners travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on No. 9 Iowa. The meet is slated to start out at 1 p.m. CT.
