Moldauer, Team USA Prepped for Worlds

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma senior Yul Moldauer and graduate Colin Van Wicklen begin competition Friday at the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, at the Aspire Dome.

The two Sooners will compete with Team USA at 1 a.m. CT Friday morning, on the second of two days of qualifications. The men’s squad will start on vault with four gymnasts competing on each event, with three scores counting. The men’s team final will be Monday at 8 a.m. CT.

“I’ve been pleased with Yul’s preparation leading up to the World Championships qualifications,” said Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams who is in Doha as Moldauer’s personal coach. “The past three weeks he’s been on point with his training for this event. I look forward to seeing what Team USA can do tomorrow morning.”

Moldauer, who claimed bronze on floor exercise and seventh in the all-around at last year’s World Championships, will be competing in his first Worlds team competition and is looking forward to the opportunity.

“We’re all focusing in on the team aspect, but hey, if I get an event title, that’d be awesome. But my mindset is about the team,” said Moldauer. “I’m just ready to go out there with my team and represent.”

The qualification round will be available via live stream at NBCSports.com/live, while the team final will be aired live on the Olympic Channel Monday morning.

The men’s all-around finals are scheduled for Wed., Oct. 31 and will be broadcast live on the Olympic Channel beginning at 8 a.m. CT, while the individual event finals are set for Nov. 2-3 and will also air on the Olympic Channel.
