Injured OU receiver Hollywood Brown runs routes at bowl practice

How healthy is Oklahoma standout receiver Marquise Brown? Judge for yourself as the Oklahoma Sooners open up practice in Miami before a semifinal battle with Alabama. Brown was seen running routes in practice with his injury status as one of the biggest storylines of the week heading into kickoff for the Sooners.

Suffering from a leg injury against Texas that put him into a walking boot, Hollywood Brown is not 100 percent but looks to be giving it his all to get back onto the field as soon as possible. Oklahoma released a depth chart this week, and it showed Brown as the starter at the all-important Z-receiver position. However, Sooner fans won’t know for sure until game time. Brown is OU’s leading receiver with 75 catches for 1,318 yards and 10 TDs.

“I think we’ve had a good kind of balance of rest, getting their bodies back, getting some injured guys back healthy, which that was a pretty long list here two or three weeks ago,” coach Lincoln Riley said.

Quarterback Kyler Murray was a scratch at Oklahoma’s media responsibilities Wednesday morning in Fort Lauderdale but the Sooners Heisman Trophy winner was also seen at practice with the ones.

“I just heard that this morning,” said Oklahoma OC Cale Gundy. “So I’m sure the doctors probably got with him and probably thought it was best to get a little rest before practice.”

Murray has been practicing since the Sooners arrived at South Beach, though, and didn’t come this morning because the medical team thought it would be better if he rested instead, Gundy said. The team isn’t concerned about it for the big picture and expects him to be fine and even practice this afternoon.

“He practiced yesterday,” Gundy said. “I think they just thought it’d be best for him to rest a little bit before practice. He should be fine.”
