Houston area DE commits to Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. — Katy (Texas) Seven Lakes three-star defensive end David Ugwoegvu has committed to the Sooners. He announced it on Twitter Thursday evening.

“The atmosphere is intriguing and getting to meet Coach [Alex] Grinch and hear the plans he has for this defense really helped seal the deal,” Ugwoegvu told OUInsider.com’s Brandon Drumm.

Ugwoegvu is the country’s No. 412 overall prospect, No. 29 weak-side defensive end and No. 51 player in the Lone Star State, with a 0.8871 rating, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite. By 247Sports, he’s the nation’s No. 498 overall prospect, No. 29 weak-side defensive end and No. 48 player in the Lone Star State, with an 88 rating.

The Crystal Ball had him pegged 100 percent to OU, with all 13 selections in favor of the Crimson and Cream.

Ugwoegvu holds a total of 21 offers. They include the likes of Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Texas, among others.

He becomes the Sooners’ 24th overall commit in #NewWave19 and seventh on the defensive line, where they’re loading up on talent. Four-stars Joseph Wete, Marcus Stripling and Marcus Hicks, plus three-stars Kori Roberson, Derek Green and LaRon Stokes have all signed already.
