NORMAN — The Oklahoma softball program and the University of Oklahoma Softball Diamond Club will host OU’s annual Meet the Team Banquet on Friday, Feb. 1 at the Oklahoma Memorial Union Ballroom on the OU campus. Fans will have the chance to meet the seven-time defending Big 12 champions and hear from head coach Patty Gasso as the team prepares for its season opener Feb. 8 at the GCU Kickoff Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
Doors to the event open at 5 p.m. with a photo booth and silent auction beginning in the evening. The program, which will start at 6:30 p.m., will include highlights from the 2018 season, Gasso’s introduction of the 2019 team and a talent show by the team’s student-athletes.
Tickets for the banquet are $50 for adults and $20 for children 6-12 years old. The event is free to children under 6. Tickets can be purchased by contacting OU Director of Softball Operations Jackie Livingston at 405-325-8377 or [email protected] Fans are asked to RSVP by Jan. 25.
The Sooners finished the 2018 season with a nation-leading 57-5 record, making their 12th appearance at the Women’s College World Series. Oklahoma is the seven-time defending Big 12 champion, a run never before seen in the conference, after sweeping the regular season and tournament titles last year.
OU returns two First-Team All-Americans in senior infielder Sydney Romero and sophomore utility player Jocelyn Alo. In addition to Romero and Alo, returning All-Region honorees include seniors Shay Knighten and Caleigh Clifton and junior Nicole Mendes.
