ESPN’s FPI projects Oklahoma’s remaining games

The Oklahoma Sooners are 7-1 heading into the final month of the regular season with another big game on tap for Saturday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadiium in Lubbock, Texas.

The Sooners are coming off a 51-14 thrashing of Kansas State on Saturday in Norman, a game in which they dominated in all facets, racking up 702 yards of offense while holding the Wildcats to just 245 yards. Kyler Murray threw for 352 yards and ran for 46 while accounting for four total touchdowns in the game.

Following the Week 9 games, ESPN updated its Football Power Index ratings, which featured the Sooners as the No. 4 team in the country and No. 1 team in the Big 12 Conference. In addition to its team ratings, FPI also includes game-by-game projections for every team, so we’ve decided to check in on the Oklahoma projections for the rest of the season.

Saturday’s rout of the Wildcats marked the second straight win for Oklahoma, who opened the season by beating Florida Atlantic, UCLA, Iowa State, Army and Baylor in consecutive weeks before falling to Texas on a late field goal in the Red River Showdown. The Sooners had a week off after the loss and have since responded with a pair of statement wins over TCU and Kansas State.

According to FPI, Oklahoma boasts the 19th-toughest remaining schedule in college football, a slate that includes three games against teams that are currently ranked in the FPI’s top 35 nationally. FPI gives the Sooners a 60.3 percent chance of winning the Big 12 title and a 29.9 percent chance of winning the remainder of their regular season games.
