NORMAN — Eight members of the Oklahoma cross country teams were among the 147 student-athletes named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
On the women’s side, Morgan Long (environmental sustainability) and Hayley Redwine (master’s in accounting) earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Additionally, Long was recognized as one of 24 Big 12 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA. Natalie O’Brien (business) was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team.
For the men, Andrew Doherty (sociology), Derek King (computer science), Calvin Miller (human relations) and Heath Warren (management of information systems/finance) were named to the All-Big 12 First Team , while Brendan Taylor (finance) was a second-team honoree.
A total of 93 women were named to the women’s teams, while 54 men earned honors.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners are back in action on Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
