NORMAN – Eight student-athletes from the University of Oklahoma volleyball team were honored as Academic All-Big 12 selections by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Seniors Audrey Alford, Madison Drescher, Alyssa Enneking and Morgan Miller and sophomores Sarah Maras, Kira Morikawa and Sarah Sanders all received first-team recognition, while sophomore Paige Anderson was a second-team selection.
Morikawa was one of eight student-athletes with a perfect 4.0.
The Academic All-Big 12 selection is the third for Alford, Drescher, and Enneking, while Anderson, Maras, Miller, Morikawa, and Sanders are all first-time honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher wither cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participates in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshman and transfer students are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners conclude their home slate on Wednesday as they host Iowa State at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets are on sale now. Additionally, fans that show their ticket for Saturday’s football game against Kansas will receive free admission to Wednesday’s volleyball match.
