NORMAN — The Oklahoma softball team put up 19 runs in a 10-inning shutout of North Central Texas College on Wednesday night at Marita Hynes Field.
Additionally, pitchers Shannon Saile, Parker Conrad, Brooke Vestal, Nicole Mendes and Mariah Lopez combined to hold the Lions to just one hit in the fall exhibition. Saile led the pitching staff with eight strikeouts on the night, including seven straight to close her outing, while Lopez struck out five of the six batters she faced.
Offensively, the Sooners were led at the plate by freshman Grace Green, who finished 4-for-6. Jocelyn Alo, Kylie Lundberg, Raegan Rogers and Eliyah Flores all finished with a pair of hits on the night.
Rogers drove in a game-high four runs against NCTC. Alo and Fale Aviu each registered three RBIs, and Green, Lundberg and Caleigh Clifton all finished with a pair.
Alo also scored four runs in the contest, and Green and Clifton crossed home three times and Flores and Audrie LaValley both did so twice.
The Sooners saw a dominant opening to the game, taking a 4-0 lead in the first thanks to home runs from Alo and Aviu and a single from Clifton that plated Green. They extended their advantage to 9-0 in the second, loading the bases and taking advantage to score five more.
Oklahoma’s highest-scoring inning came in the sixth when the Sooners added six runs on four hits.
With the win, the Sooners moved to 6-0 in fall exhibition play. OU concludes fall ball on Sunday, Oct. 28 in Fayetteville, Ark., with a double-header against Arkansas.
