Cross Country Prepped for Texas A&M Meet

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to College Station, Texas, this weekend to compete in the inaugural Texas A&M-Arturo Barrios Invitational. The meet will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. CT at the Dale Watts cross country course on the campus of Texas A&M University.

“On the men’s side we’ll be debuting a few of our missing pieces in Brendan Taylor and Ackeen Colley,” said OU associate head cross country coach Kevin Ondrasek. “They will bring new energy to our pack mentality.

“On the women’s side we’ll be going in with our conference rivals in mind.”

The Sooners return to the course after competing at the Joe Piane-Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Sept. 28. The men’s team took home a 15th-place finish, while the women placed 19th at the meet. Freshman Haley Herberg led the women’s squad with an 18th-place finish, crossing the line in the 5K in 17:14.7. The men’s squad was led by freshman Eric Casarez, taking 42nd and senior Jacob Janzen placing 48th in respective five-mile times of 24:46.1 and 24:53.4.
