Despite some troubles in Lubbock last weekend, the Sooners seem destined for a New Year’s Six Bowl.
All the national prognosticators have Oklahoma in a New Year’s Six game — most in a rematch vs Georgia in the Sugar Bowl — but on the outside looking in on the playoff picture.
Oklahoma will be heavy favorites in its next two matchups vs Oklahoma State and Kansas, so it’s unlikely anything will change before Thanksgiving. The Sooners’ next major test will be in Morgantown later this month, and they could be fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff. At the very least, a win would likely put them in the Big 12 title game in Arlington the following weekend.
The Sooners could end up losing the Big 12 but still end up in a New Year’s Six bowl. In that scenario, West Virginia would likely go to the Sugar Bowl and OU would fight for an at-large bid in the Peach or Fiesta.
