FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Oklahoma kicker Austin Seibert could put his name in the history books Saturday against Alabama.
Seibert is just six points away from matching the all-time record for points by a kicker, currently held by Arizona State’s Zane Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has 494 career points, although that total includes a two-point conversion. Seibert already holds the all-time scoring record for Oklahoma and the Big 12 with 488 career points.
Seibert says he’s staying focused on the task at hand — defeating Alabama to get a spot in the College Football Playoff title game.
“I would trade all those (records) to get to the national championship,” Seibert said. “It’s more important to win this game.
“But after my career, to say I (set those) records? Yeah, it’ll be really cool.”
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.
