Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was sensational on Saturday against Texas, and his efforts could be rewarded with the Heisman Trophy.
Murray has jumped ahead in ESPN’s Heisman straw poll, edging out Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Murray’s excellent performance against Texas (379 yards and three scores) strongly contrasted Tagovailoa’s shortcomings vs Georgia.
Murray has trailed Tagovailoa all year long, but now holds a very narrow lead, per 10 of ESPN’s college football experts. Murray accounted for six first-place votes and for second-place votes. Tagovailoa was the reverse of that, garnering four first-place votes and six second-place votes.
The Allen native also topped Tagovailoa in The Athletic’s final straw poll, but by a wider margin: 96 points to 72. Murray earned 28 of the 34 possibe first-place votes.
Here’s the side-by-side case, which was sent out by Oklahoma’s communications team:
Finalists for the Heisman Trophy will be announced on Monday night during ESPN’s NFL Countdown show. The winner will be honored on Dec. 8.
