Oklahoma linebacker Curtis Bolton has responded to comments made by Texas defensive end Breckyn Hager concerning OU’s defense.
Hager was reprimanded by the Big 12 earlier this week for closing a media availability by saying “OU has no defense.” Bolton was asked about it after Friday night’s contest:
“It blows my mind,” Bolton said after OU’s 59-56 win at West Virginia. “We hung 50 on them, too. If anyone on their defense has anything to say, they can have fun playing Kyler next week.”
Bolton was slightly off — Texas defeated OU 48-45 back in October, so the Sooners’ offense didn’t quite get to 50. But the message was clear: he didn’t appreciate the comments, even amid a rough stretch for Oklahoma’s defense.
OU’s win in Morgantown does mean the Sooners and Longhorns will meet again this season, this time for the Big 12 championship. Oklahoma is going for its fourth straight title while Texas seeks its first conference crown since 2009.
Even as OU’s defense continues to struggle, there are signs of life heading into next week’s game in Arlington. The Sooners scored twice off fumble recoveries in Morgantown, and OU’s cornerbacks, collectively, played their best game in weeks (safeties, not so much).
Perhaps more importantly for OU, Kyler Murray continues to play well as he racked up 478 total yards and four scores vs. WVU.
Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. next Saturday, Dec. 1, at AT&T Stadium.
