Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert announced Wednesday that he will return to school for one more season with the Ducks, which could increase Kyler Murray’s chances of being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft.
Herbert’s announcement is somewhat surprising — he was a potential first-round pick and seen as a top-two quarterback prospect in this draft alongside Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins.
Murray, who is currently committed to playing baseball with the Oakland Athletics in the spring, is a potential first-round pick. Earlier this month, ESPN’s Todd McShay said Murray would be in contention to be the No. 1 quarterback taken in the draft if he decided to play football.
The potential new window for Murray was not lost on Twitter. Immediately after the Herbert news broke, college football fans and media from around the country began speculating as to whether or not it would would impact Murray.
