Denton Ryan athlete Drew Sanders is one of the best prospects in the 2020 class and gave Oklahoma an early commitment.
He talks about his decision, OU’s season and which schools are trying to pry him away in this Q&A with The Dallas Morning News.
EJ: Your team is in the middle of a deep playoff run. What’s been going right for you guys?
DS: We’ve been playing together. We’re figuring stuff out. We’re attacking the ball. We’re just getting things done. Everything is clicking. We’re playing great defensive ball right now.
EJ: You play wide receiver, wildcat quarterback and linebacker for Denton Ryan. Where do you see yourself lining up at the next level?
DS: Whatever puts me in the best position to play in the NFL. Oklahoma has told me tight end. They see me kind of like a Mark Andrews type of player or a Grant Calcaterra. That’s what they are looking at me for.
EJ: You made a really early commitment to Oklahoma. What went into that decision?
DS: They’ve been around my family a lot and created a family environment for me. I really enjoy going up there. I like what they want to do with me. Watching Mark Andrews and Calcaterra, I knew that’s something I could do. It’s just a really good fit.
EJ: Oklahoma won the Big 12 and is in the College Football Playoff. What are your thoughts on the season the Sooners are having?
DS: They are doing great right now. They came back and beat Texas after losing to them. They are doing a great job and getting stuff done.
EJ: Last thing, have any schools tried to pry you away from OU?
DS: Texas A&M has talked to me a little bit. But other than that, not really. I’m solid with Oklahoma.
