What’s at stake during Week 13
Here’s a look at next week’s Big 12 football games and what’s at stake during each.
Friday, November 23
Texas at Kansas, 11 am (FS1): The Jayhawks have nothing to play for beyond sending David Beaty off with a win and playing spoiler. For the Longhorns, it’s simple: Win and you’re in the Big 12 title game. Lose and you’re not.
Oklahoma at West Virginia, 7 pm (ESPN): The stakes are equally clear in this matchup. The winner will make the Big 12 title game. The loser will not — unless Kansas upsets Texas and throws a wrench in things. In that case, a West Virginia-Oklahoma rematch would be on the docket if West Virginia and Kansas win. If Oklahoma wins and Texas loses to Kansas, there’s the possibility of a three-way tie at 6-3 between Texas, West Virginia and Iowa State (if the Cyclones beat Kansas State on Saturday) that would be broken using the following criteria:
Saturday, November 24
Kansas State at Iowa State, game details TBD: Iowa State is now out of the Big 12 Championship Game race after its Week 12 loss to Texas. But the Cyclones still have bowl positioning to jockey for. Kansas State needs to win to keep its bowl streak alive and extend it to nine straight seasons.
Oklahoma State at TCU, game details TBD: Oklahoma State clinched bowl eligibility with its upset win over West Virginia. TCU kept its bowl hopes alive by beating Baylor in Waco. The Horned Frogs need to beat Oklahoma State in Week 13 to get to the six-win mark and become bowl eligible.
Baylor vs. Texas Tech at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, game details TBD: There aren’t many numbers to crunch here. Both schools are 5-6. The winner becomes bowl eligible, the loser sees its season come to an end.
