Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star cornerback Chris Steele announced his top five schools as he nears a commitment. The teams left in the race for the 6-foot-1, 190 pound playmaker are the Florida Gators, Oregon Ducks, Oklahoma Sooners, Southern California Trojans, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
In October, while USC struggled during the regular season, Steele decided to de-commit from the Trojans and open his recruitment up once again. Steele is now set to announce his decision on January 5 at the 2019 All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
Since backing off his pledge to the Trojans, several predictions for Steele on the 247Sports Crystal Ball have been in favor of the Florida Gators. You can get the latest VIP intel on Florida’s pursuit of Steele and several other recruits HERE. Florida head coach Dan Mullen has already used his one in-home visit with Steele already. The talented cornerback gave his reaction to Mullen visiting his home HERE.
Below is Steele’s player evaluation from 247Sports:
Lean but strong frame with plenty of room to fill out. Carries 190 pounds with ease and should play at 210 pounds at the college level without losing any of his athleticism. A very physical press corner who plays with an edge to his game. Will bully opposing receivers at the line of scrimmage and shows the speed to turn and run with an athletic receiver as well. Strong in run support and will lay out an opposing receiver or running back. A highly intelligent player who could grow in to a safety in college because of his football IQ, frame and physicality. Tremendous work ethic off the field and driven to be not just good but a great player. Can improve his hips, change of direction and ball skills but should play early at the college level. Impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future NFL draft pick.
The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Steele as the nation’s No. 40 overall prospect and the No. 5 cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class.
