When Oklahoma travels to Morgantown to battle the West Virginia Mountaineers, it will be with the idea that the Sooners will have to win a shootout on Friday night. That’s at least the thinking of most Sooner fans, and you can’t blame them.
The defense seemed to improve with outstanding performances against Texas Christian and Kansas State in the wake of the firing of former defensive coordinator Mike Stoops. However, the Sooners have looked disastrous in outings against Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Kansas.
Particularly, giving up 40 points to KU and over 250 yards running back Pooka Williams Jr. has pushed many Sooner fans toward the idea that the defense cannot be depended on to stop any team from scoring at least six touchdowns and has little chance of preventing WVU from doing what OSU and Tech did at a minimum. So the question for many OU fans is can Kyler Murray and the offense win a shootout against WVU?
