Bob Bowlsby and the Big 12 are being ridiculous with Breckyn Hager

What’s up, everybody?

So following Texas’ win over Iowa State last Saturday night, a reporter relayed to Texas Longhorns team captain Breckyn Hager the (shockingly high) score of the OU-Kansas game. The Blonde Bandit said what any normal UT-loving, OU-hating individual would say.

“OU has no defense.”

“It’s 11:12, and OU still sucks.”

Of course, ‘round these parts, the big, bad sheriff known as Bob Bowlsby isn’t having any of that there rivalry trash talk. Given what we’ve seen from how the conference has handled players throwing the Horns down, was it any surprise to anybody that Hager was publicly reprimanded and essentially forced to issue an apologetic statement? Good grief.

Here’s the statement that was 100% without a doubt, no question about it written by Hager himself. Wait, you still don’t believe me? Alright, you may pass.

Ask most Sooner fans, and they’ll actually agree with the Longhorn folks on this one. Punishment or finger-wagging of any kind for what Hager said is just plain egregious and unnecessary. OU-Texas is one of the nation’s best rivalries, period. The hate is real, and the hits keep coming. And it’s not like he said anything personal or uncalled for. Let the young people have some fun, too. My goodness gracious, y’all. Lighten up, for once.

Now onto Hot Links! Curtis Bolton makes a rather bold promise, the best has yet to come for Kennedy Brooks, Adrian Beltre calls it a career and more!

  • So the Kansas City Chiefs and the L.A. Rams put on quite a show that will go down in NFL history as one of the most entertaining games ever. It’s already the first game that saw both teams score more than 50 points. For football elitists, they’ll use the contradictory argument for a college game like this that the defense is just bad, but then praise a game like this when professionals are playing. The truth? Football is football, and that was entertaining.
  • More on the Monday Night Festival of touchdowns, check out all 14 scores here. Also, the Buffalo Bills only have 13 touchdowns all season. Sad. Anyway, here’s one of the beauties from the game. Hey look, it’s a former Big 12 player throwing it to another wide open former Big 12 player.
  • Tom Waits, known by most for his voice, flexes his acting prowess in his first lead-role for one of six anthological shorts from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. From the genius of the Coen brothers, Waits’ talents refuse to be typecast simply as a musician, even for how great he is in that regard. For Ethan, Joel and Tom, talk about a combo that’s long been overdue.
