• The Basics
Oklahoma State (6-7, 0-1 Big 12) got a monster performance from Cameron McGriff but fell just short in its Big 12 opener against Iowa State. Now the Cowboys turn their attention to the rival Sooners (11-2, 0-1 Big 12) and the first Bedlam matchup of the season. Oklahoma checks in at No. 23/25 in the latest polls, but had its seven-game win streak snapped by No. 5/6 Kansas on Wednesday night in Lawrence, Kansas. This is the 237th Bedlam meeting, and the Cowboys have taken four of the last five, including the last two. The next OSU win over OU will be the program’s 100th in the all-time series.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on Fox Sports Southwest at 1 p.m. Central. Chad McKee, Bryndon Manzer and Jessica Coody will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at FoxSportsGo.com or via the Fox Sports Go app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio XM 385.
Junior captain Cameron McGriff has posted back-to-back double-doubles, which makes him the first Cowboy since Marcus Smart in 2014 to accomplish that feat. The last OSU player to record three straight double-doubles was Desmond Mason in 1999-00. McGriff leads the Cowboys in scoring and rebounding, and is shooting a respectable 37.3 percent from 3-point. OSU is 5-2 when McGriff scores 14 points or more (10-3 for his career). In wins this season, McGriff is averaging 17.5 points and 8.2 rebounds on 46.7 percent shooting. In losses, those numbers dip to 9.9 points and 7.9 rebounds on 30.0 percent shooting. McGriff has four double-doubles this season and 10 double-digit scoring performances.
• Taking Down The Best
With its victory over No. 19/21 LSU in November, Oklahoma State picked up its fifth win over a ranked opponent in its last six opportunities. The Cowboys are one of just five teams in college basketball that can claim to have beaten five of their last six ranked opponents. OSU joins Virginia (6-0), Arkansas (5-1), Michigan (5-1) and Virginia Tech (5-1). In all, OSU has 123 victories over top top-25 squads in program history, including 14 wins over ranked OU teams.
• The All-Sport Bedlam Series
Oklahoma State and Oklahoma compete yearly in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma Bedlam Series, an all-sports competition between the two schools, which are separated by only 80 miles along Interstate 35. The series champion is decided by wins and losses in head to head competition. In sports where there is no head to head matchup, the Big 12 Championship final standings are used. Oklahoma State has won the overall Bedlam series each of the last five years.
• Bedlam Basketball
This is the 237th hardwood meeting between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in a rivalry that dates back to 1908. With rare exception these two programs have met at least twice a year since 1916. OU leads the overall series, 137-99, although Oklahoma State has taken four of the last five meetings overall, including a sweep in 2016-17. In the last two Bedlam games, OSU withstood a Bedlam-record 48-point barrage from Trae Young to beat No. 4 OU, 83-81, in overtime on Jan. 20, 2018, and then outlasted the Sooners in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship, 71-60, in Kansas City on March 7, 2018.
• Uncharted Waters
Norman’s own Lindy Waters is undefeated against the rival Sooners in his career. OSU is 3-0 when the junior from Norman North High School plays against Oklahoma, including the thrilling 68-66 win in Norman in 2017 and the final two matchups of 2018. In those games, Waters is averaging 6.7 points and 4.0 rebounds on 47.1 percent shooting.
