Bedlam football: A look back at the Oklahoma Sooners – Oklahoma State Cowboys series since 2000 | Slideshows

From the archives: “Adrian Peterson shot through the Cowboy defense twice for touchdown runs of 84 and 71 yards on his way to another record-breaking day in OU’s 42-14 victory. He finished with 237 rushing yards.

“Peterson, fullback J.D. Runnels, tight ends Bubba Moses and Joe Jon Finley and linemen Davin Joseph, Kelvin Chaisson, Chris Bush, Chris Chester, J.D. Quinn and Chris Messner simply overpowered OSU’s defense and, by the third quarter, wore the Cowboys down.

“‘J.D., that guy’s special,’ said Joseph, the left tackle who cleared the way on Peterson’s second TD, which gave the Sooners a comfortable 35-14 lead early in the fourth quarter.

“‘(Runnels is) a great blocker on the run, very aggressive, very downhill, and I think he’s one of the great reasons why Adrian’s so good. Adrian’s a downhill runner and with J.D. in front of him, shoot, it’s endless what they can do.””

OSU’s season finish: 4-7

OU’s season finish: 8-4, No. 22 in both polls, Holiday Bowl champions
