A look at the Sooners’ 2019 class

NORMAN Okla. — The second edition of Early Signing Day is almost here, and the Sooners have locked up 19 commits they’re preparing to sign. And for the second straight year since its installment, they’re about to do so while getting ready for the College Football Playoff.

“You know, we learn that these two weeks are going to be really, really hectic, especially if you play in the championship game then you have some guys going to these different award ceremonies,” said head coach Lincoln Riley. “And that’s been no different here the last however many days. We’ve been going at them pretty hard. But yeah, I think there’s some things we learned as far as timing, as far as approach, strategy, kind of how your numbers fit in, trying to get a strategy for now and also looking ahead to how you’re going to approach it in January as well.

“So I think we’re a little bit more comfortable. It doesn’t feel new. It doesn’t feel like unchartered territory right now, so I think we all have an idea of what we’re getting into. I think we’re a little more settled on our strategy going forward with the guys that we’re taking and where we’re allocating numbers and how we’re recruiting guys. And so I think we’re more clearheaded and kind of more zeroed in on how we want to do really the entire process.”

Their No. 9 overall class is headlined by a pair of Composite five-stars and four inside the Composite Top 100. Two-thirds of the class are of the four-star variety or higher, with seven on the offensive side of the ball and five on defense.
