The Early Signing Period can always promise some intriguing headlines, especially with how things are lining up for the Texas football recruiting class.
For the 2019 Texas football recruiting class, the JUCO commits don’t make up a very large portion of the 21 in the group. This 2019 Texas football recruiting class only features one JUCO commit, and it didn’t come until very recently. It is good to see head coach Tom Herman building this 2019 Texas football recruiting class with mostly highly touted high school prospects.
Moreover, that one 2019 Texas football recruiting class commit that’s coming from the JUCO ranks just flipped over from the Oklahoma Sooners. Three-star Butler Community College strongside defensive end Jacoby Jones is the only commit that will be coming in with limited eligibility if this class stays at the status quo through National Signing Day.
Building a roster of JUCO prospects obviously isn’t a long-term solution. What it can do is plug some holes with talent that is more developed and mature and ready to make an instant impact. One of the key signees that was in the 2018 Texas football recruiting class that could’ve made an instant impact from the JUCO ranks would’ve helped the offensive line in three-star guard Mikey Grandy. The unfortunate part for Grandy and the Horns was his previous injury history that forced him out of football completely before he could even begin his career on the Forty Acres.
As the time is winding down until the start of the Early Signing Period, the 2019 Texas football recruiting class will start to scramble to fill its biggest positional needs. That’s where some of the better uncommitted JUCO prospects could come into play for Herman and the Horns.
Here’s a look at the three JUCO 2019 prospects that the Texas Longhorns should pursue before, and during, the Early Signing Period for this recruiting cycle.
